The last ride out of the year took us into the Peak District on some of the best roads in the country. I rode the route the day before and the roads were just starting to dry out after several days of heavy rain. Hoping for a dry day on the Sunday and a chance to experience some very good, long sweeping bends, the nine of us met at McDonalds at 9:45am. Just before we were about to set off somebody on a Sprint RS, who shall remain nameless, said ‘I’ve not bought my waterproofs – it looked nice in Stoke when I set out’.
That was the comment that put a jinx on the day. Minutes later the heavens opened and the rain was bouncing off the road for half an hour. Eventually, we set off half an hour late and headed out towards Leek. We carried on into the peaks through Buxton, Tideswell and Bakewell where we stopped for Lunch. Then we set off again through some great bends before arriving after a fairly short, but dry, ride at the Harrington Arms pub just in time for the Judging of Meriden and Hinckley Triumphs by the North Staffs branch of the Triumph Owners Club.
